Origin: Inspired by Brazilian judoka Ezequiel Paraguassu, also known as a sode guruma jime or sleeve wheel constriction, the choke became popularized as Paraguassu's technique after he used it to consistently submit training partners during his preparation for the 1988 Olympics. The choke works by using the sleeve to apply pressure to either the trachea or the carotid arteries.
